Self portrait #4

I should really go and find someone else to photograph like a criminal.

Edit: should probably explain that the look on my face is due to the lemon I had just eaten. Bitter. A quick look into the many involuntary faces I pull.

Self Portrait #3

I am quite narcissistic, no surprise there, so I thought it was about time I explored this using my camera... again. Its been about 2 years since I last sat down and made a self portrait.

Its a strange but fascinating process, one of taking and then looking, adding another stage to the creation of a photograph. Its also weird how often I looked at a picture that said "this doesn't look like me". Eventually, I found a crop that I feel encompasses my head on photographic style and the pleasure I take in looking. The slightly raised eyebrow reflects my questioning personality and the unforgiving camera allows the viewer to explore the history of my face (which isn't that long).

But that's just my view.

Taf went out and found...

Since graduating, I haven't taken many photographs and i certainly haven't updated my blog so I thought it time I go out and refresh my eyes to the world. Its amazing how coming back to Essex has dulled my artistic appetite.

After a good long look on google maps I found a couple of pill boxes in the local country side that I decided to photograph Bernd and Hilla Becher style.

On another note, however scary these place are during the day, I would very much like to shoot here during the late evening. Time to get a car.

Its been a long time

Since I last blogged any of my work, or anything for that matter so My plan for this post is to update a considerable amount. Things have been changing fast, with the degree show round the corner it really is time for me to buckle down. Any ways here are the latest additions with some re-shoots.

Something I haven't seen for a while

This photograph was taken late 2008 in Leicester city centre. I must get back on the black and white photography.

Gary Numan...

This image was at a point in my life where i have to make a lot of decisions. what to do, where to go next. This photograph symbolises these crossroads in life.

Return to sender...how about it never gets to the receiver

This photo was inspired by all those moments in my life when i've said something, and instantly regretted it, sent a text and not been able to cancel it or time, and all the times i've sent drunken emails, Something most people I know have done.

Fine Art courses should have dedicated classes about naming work...

What's in a woman's bag is just a mystery to men.

This latest piece is set to go in DMU's Degree show this June. except I'm not sure which one to use. I'm leaning towards the 2nd one but any comments would be more than welcome.

Park life...(these post names have to stop)

Different aesthetics... not too sure what happened here but I think i need to try and get back to the aesthetics of my previous photographs. Well similar but i don't want to just end up photographing the same things. Dilemmas!!

The things we do for friends

Just a little creativity that needed to be vented. This image was pasted on to a mug and sent to my friend Kerry (she loves pigeons). Thought I'd share the love with the everyone else too.

Microwave dinners

Taking certain aspects of the previous photograph, I am trying to keep that sense of a moment, whilst keeping a limited sense of theatricality about the photographs, a limited narrative.

On another note, I really need to start naming these works.

Superman can wait...

This image for me marks a new transition in my work...again, it has a certain aesthetic quality which i enjoy. It also seems to balance nicely between capturing a moment and being staged in a way that makes the viewer aware that it is staged. more to follow...

Hello?

I have decided to go back to staging photographs at night time again much like in the watch series. This seems to create much more dramatic imagery than when shooting during the day time. I think using a phonebox seems to have worked well. I just may need to clean the side that I am shooting through next time. I think I will try a series of these. Boys and Girls? we will see.

The New Beginning

After the most recent review of my work concerning the morals and ethics behind candid photography. I decided to take a leaf out of Jeff Wall's book and re-stage events that he had seen. Here are the initial results of these 're-stagings' which i feel have worked well to a certain extent, however i feel there is still a long way to go. Comments are welcome.
